Fordite is not a stone, but a man made material that came out of the assembly lines of the Ford Motor Co. The process that created Fordite is no longer in use. Years ago cars were painted by hand using spray guns, the overspray adhered to the racks, which were then run through the ovens with the cars. (Today, the paint is electrostatically magnetized to adhere to the car bodies, leaving no overspray to accumulate in the painting bays.) Many repetitions resulted in hundreds of layers of oven-hardened paint. When the buildup got in the way, it was chipped off. Due to the high efficiency of current painting methods, Fordite is no longer being generated. What is currently on the market is all that is available. Fordite items are a fun way to enjoy a little nostalgia from American Auto Makers of the past.
Each stone and gemstone is unique, each piece of jewelry we make is also.
Natural Stones are not perfect. They may have surface or internal characteristics and color variations. I do my best to take accurate photos to show exactly what you will receive. Colors will vary slightly from one computer monitor to another.
*NOTE: Wire weaving and wrapping is a genre of jewelry that requires pliable wire to be shaped into each piece. As a piece progresses, the wire hardens and sometimes it is hammered to further strengthen a piece. It will retain it’s shape, however if you try to bend it or it gets squished, it will bend. Do not place your wire woven or wrapped jewelry in a purse or pocket.
